Afghanistan's Persian Literature in Transition: Creative Writing and War (2001–2021)

After the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001, a new wave of literature emerged in Afghanistan that was principally different from the prior dominant literature trend in the 1990s and 1980s. Although the new approach could be chronically considered post-war literature, the literary products rarely mirrored the revision and reassessment of Afghanistan society in the time of civil war and the Taliban regime.

In this article, S. Asef Hossaini investigates how Afghanistan's Persian literature rose and flourished from 2001 to 2021 embracing creativity in language, structure, and social responsibility, and experienced fluctuation caused by socio-political challenges.
